Can’t easily get to a clinic because you’re recovering from surgery, have limited mobility, or are caring for someone who needs support? You may be wondering: can professional ear wax removal come to you instead?
At Ear Suction Clinic, we offer home visits across Perth for people who are unable to come to our Nollamara clinic. A trained clinician brings professional equipment to your home and, if an examination shows that treatment is suitable, can provide microsuction ear wax removal there.
Here’s what to expect, how to prepare, and how to arrange a visit.
When a home visit may help
Getting out of the house can be a real undertaking. Perhaps you’re recovering after an operation, have a disability or mobility challenges, or are supporting an older family member who finds travel difficult. Caring responsibilities, illness, or transport barriers can also make a clinic appointment impractical.
A home visit can make professional ear care more accessible, without asking you or your loved one to manage a trip to the clinic. Our home visit service is available across Perth for people who can’t easily travel.
If you’re a family member or carer making enquiries, you can call on the patient’s behalf. We’ll talk through the arrangements and any access or support needs before confirming the visit.

What happens during a home visit?
A home appointment follows the same patient-focused approach as care in our clinic. The clinician will first ask about the patient’s symptoms and relevant ear-health history. It’s useful to mention previous ear surgery, a known perforated eardrum, current pain or discharge, and any concerns about sitting comfortably.
Next, the clinician examines the ear to check what may be causing the blockage and whether wax removal is appropriate. A blocked or muffled ear isn’t always caused by wax, so assessment matters. If wax is present and the clinician considers treatment suitable, they may use microsuction ear wax removal. A method that uses controlled suction rather than flushing the ear with water.
The clinician will explain what they’re doing and check how the patient is feeling as they go. Afterward, they’ll recheck the ear and provide advice based on the assessment. If wax isn’t present, or treatment isn’t suitable, they can explain the next step.

How to book an ear wax removal home visit
Home visits need to be arranged directly with our team. Call Ear Suction Clinic on 1300 380 060 to discuss the patient’s needs and whether we can arrange a visit. You can also use our contact page to get in touch.
When you call, it helps to have this information ready:
- The patient’s suburb and whether the appointment is at a private home or care facility.
- A brief description of the symptoms and how long they’ve been present.
- Any mobility, access or positioning requirements.
- Relevant ear history, such as previous surgery or a known eardrum perforation.
- Whether a family member or carer will be present.
Ask us about the available appointment times and the total fee for the visit. Home-visit pricing can depend on the location and care arrangements, so please confirm the cost when booking. No GP referral is required to contact us or ask about an appointment.
We offer same-day and urgent appointments at our clinic when available. However, home-visit availability may differ, so please call to check rather than assume an urgent home appointment can be arranged.
Getting ready for the appointment
There’s no need to turn your home into a clinic. A few simple preparations can make the visit more comfortable:
- Choose a quiet, well-lit spot where the patient can sit comfortably.
- Make sure the clinician has a clear path to the chair and enough space to set up equipment.
- Have a support person nearby if the patient would feel more at ease.
- Keep a list of medicines and relevant medical or ear history handy.
- Avoid putting cotton buds or other objects into the ear.
Our FAQs recommend using pharmacy-grade olive oil before an appointment to help soften wax. Please check with us before using drops if you’re unsure whether they’re appropriate, particularly if there is a history of ear surgery, a perforated eardrum, pain or discharge. We can advise you about preparation when you call.

A note about symptoms that need medical advice
A blocked ear can be uncomfortable, but it’s best not to assume that wax is the cause. Sudden hearing loss, severe or worsening pain, blood or fluid from the ear, or marked dizziness should be assessed by a health professional promptly. If symptoms are severe or you’re worried, contact your GP or seek urgent medical advice rather than waiting for a routine wax appointment.
For general information on ear wax management, see the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ guidance. It’s not a substitute for an assessment of your individual symptoms.

Ready to ask about a visit?
If you or someone you care for can’t easily get to a clinic, a home visit may be a practical way to access professional ear care. Call us on 1300 380 060 to discuss the patient’s needs, availability and pricing. We’ll help you understand the next steps and whether a visit may be suitable.
Please don’t try to clear a blockage with cotton buds or guess at the cause of symptoms. A proper assessment helps guide the right care.
